Focus: A better life for everyone
I think the most important thing for the animal rights movement is to
focus on the positive effects of a society actually living with
animal rights. If people had more positive feelings about the
claims of the movement then the change to a truly peaceful society
would be much easier. To focus on the positive outcome is even more
crucial because the topic is so cruel and bloody. Yes,
billions of nonhuman slaves lead miserable lives and one could go mad
about the sheer horror they must experience. But how can we change
this situation for the better?
The good thing is, that (in my experience) people do
acknowledge that nonhuman animals should be treated better than now.
They know, that they play a part in this violent system
too by financially supporting this industry. With this in mind it
seems easy to offer people a way of living that is indeed much more
peaceful than the predominant carnistic one.
The vision of a fair society has so much more to offer than the
status quo. What do we have now?
Killing of sentient and living beings with unique characters, people
living in constant cognitive dissonance, double-standards,
euphemisms, cynic advertisments...an atmosphere of violence in its
most despicable way. Who sincerely wants to continue that?
It could be so much better...
My vision in a nutshell looks like this: Freedom for our
nonhuman-animal-slaves, true and comprehensive peace (instead of
a shallow anthroprocentric one), a society based on honesty and
respect (instead of speciesistic violence). A better life for everyone.
The animal rights movement ought to be a peace movement, that
prepares an era of true peace.
Whenever I talk about the exploitation of nonhuman animals I and I
see the desperate looks in the faces of people I remind them of their
power to improve the situation. We can improve the
lives of the most oppressed beings, if we want to. Always
remember the vision of a truly peaceful society and a better life for everyone.
